Back in January, I went to New York. I never did a very good job blogging about that trip (or anything much lately, sorry). While I was there, one of the days my friend Allison and I walked all over town, including crossing the Brooklyn Bridge and then wandering the DUMBO area. When I spied Bubby's Pie Company, I knew we needed to stop for a slice or two.
Not only is Allison a good hostess, but she's a good sport and agreed to be my guest judge. To give her some credentials, Allison said that if she had to choose her last meal it would be a slice of blackberry pie made by her mother. I ordered a slice of sour cherry and she had a slice of peanut butter chocolate, her second favorite flavor.
We enjoyed our respective slices. Allison found hers to have a lovely chiffony peanut butter filling with a thick fudge-y bottom. A definite yum, even if she wished there was a little more of that chocolate. The crust on my slice was thin and crisp and let the tart sour cherries be the star. I was also impressed with the lattice crust. All in all, I would recommend Bubby's for some pie.
Pi Day (which is Sunday) is more than just a day to celebrate a beloved baked good. It's also several friends' birthdays, including my friend Tina. Tina and I went to high school together and since I've moved back to Ohio, we've become close friends. (She's helped me on a couple of PFRs as well.) This year she turns 30. I dedicated my Pi Day mix to her this year. Happy birthday Tina!
